About Me

I am a University of Oxford Physics and Philosophy graduate, and in early 2020 I taught myself how to make a website. I fell in love with the unique blend of logical problem solving and creativity that is necessary for good web development. Now, having worked with websites since November 2020, I have come to love optimising and designing efficient processes, and am looking for new opportunities in this area.

Education

University of Oxford

2015-2019

Master of Physics and Philosophy, MPhysPhil

During my first three years at Oxford I gained a solid grounding in the central elements of both physics and philosophy. During my final masters year, I focused primarily on the Philosophy of Quantum Mechanics, with particular interest in the nature of probability under the Everett (Many-Worlds) interpretation. I also developed a particular interest in the Philosophy of Mind, in particular the nature of consciousness, as well as the intersection between Ethics and science.

Wycombe Abbey School

2007-2014

GCSE, A-Level

During my time at school I developed my interest in science, finishing with my A-levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Religious Studies (A/A* in all). This is also where I first became interested in the world of theatre and music, and also started my interest in volunteer work.

Professional Experience

Journey Further

November 2020-present

Front-End Developer

My role at Journey Further is quite different to that of a typical Front End Developer. I work within the Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO) team, which runs testing on client websites to ascertain which version customers prefer. My role is to build the tests, primarily using Javascript, jQuery, HTML and CSS, but I also have a number of other responsibilities including:

West London

February 2020-Start of UK Lockdown

Private Nanny/Tutor

During my time as a nanny I was responsible for the daily care of two school-aged children. I assisted with homework and provided additional problems and exercises to help develop curiosity outside of the national curriculum. I also provided supervision during daily activities, both in and out of the home, and cooked nutritious meals.

Exponent Private Equity

August 2019-September 2019

Intern

While at Exponent I worked primarily alongside the head of Environment and Social Governance (ESG). My projects included an analysis of multiple portfolio companies to produce ESG performance reports, as well as researching the performance of external companies to produce financial reports for use in briefing notes.

Quest Overseas

July-September 2018

Marketing Assistant

Quest Overseas is a Brighton-based travel company that works alongside its partner charity, Quest4Change, to match volunteers with meaningful projects in South America and Africa. During my time with them I updated the company social media strategy, seeing on average double the previous daily engagement. I also updated and improved the website using WordPress, and conducted interviews for potential volunteers.

St John Ambulance

March 2020-present

Volunteer Heathcare Assistant

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic I have been volunteering as a healthcare assistant in Hammersmith Hospital. My duties include assisting nurses with day to day care of patients, facilitating the independence of patients, and contributing to the efficient running of the ward.

University of Oxford Officer Training Corps

2017-2019

Officer Cadet

As an officer cadet, I completed Mod A of the Sandhurst Reserve Officer commissioning course. I developed mental and physical robustness through military leadership training, and I took on multiple challenges designed to challenge resilience and mental acuity under stress.

Oxford University Light Entertainment Society

2017-2019

Treasurer

The Oxford University Light Entertainment Society is a charitable drama society operating out of Oxford University. We put on three original musicals per academic year and donate the profits to charity; averaging £1300 per year in donations. Within my role as treasurer I managed all ticket sales and revenue, made financial decisions and formulated budgets on behalf of the society, and worked with the rest of the committee to select scripts and production teams each term.

Oxford University Light Entertainment Society

2017-2019

Production Team

During my time at university I was on the production team of many plays, assisting in a variety of roles from Director and Producer to Stage Manager. I directed casts varying in size from 5-30 people at venues ranging from care homes to large scale theatres, as well as ensuring the smooth and effective production of many plays. This would include managing the effective marketing, sourcing props and set items and ensuring everything happened at the appropriate time.
